We feel like it’s time to sit down and reflect on how Tiếng Việt Ơi has grown over the years and what makes our job so meaningful.
As long as we feel there’s still so much for TVO to improve and grow, we also want to take a moment to reflect on the reasons why you should choose us for your Vietnamese learning experience.
Here are 5 things we think make Tiếng Việt Ơi special.
1. You’ll get to experience learning authentic Vietnamese.
This is something TVO has always taken pride in – it’s our unique selling point.
At Tiếng Việt Ơi, we stress the importance of daily, practical Vietnamese. Our lessons mainly focus on introducing authentic Vietnamese that you can actually use in everyday life. Classes are often filled with role-plays and other activities that encourage students to actively produce the language rather than just passively learn it.
We even take students out on field trips, where they get to immerse themselves in authentic environments, interview locals and put their language learning into real practice. Check out the video below to see how our students went out and prepared “lẩu” – hotpot for a rainy day.
2. You’ll get to experience personalized lessons tailored to your specific needs.
With TVO’s one-on-one lessons, we do our best to tailor everything to your learning pace.
Everyone has different learning capabilities, and we truly believe there’s no one-size-fits-all model when it comes to learning a language. Lessons can be designed as you go, based on your personal preferences, learning styles and needs.
Some students really thrive with kinesthetic activities, while others enjoy a more “solitary” learning atmosphere that focuses on writing. Some prefer having lots of visuals and illustrations to help them understand things better.
We believe the best learning experience is one that works for YOU.
3. You can gain access to high-quality learning materials.
While our materials on YouTube channel and Podcasts are produced for you to use freely (and they’re of very high quality too!), once you sign up for our courses, you’ll also get access to our beautifully designed coursebooks, packed with plenty of high-quality listening materials.
One of our students once shared that what made her enjoy Tiếng Việt Ơi’s courses was the variety of learning materials she got to work with, especially given how limited learning resources can sometimes be when studying Vietnamese.
Our flashcards can also be purchased individually without signing up for a course. But here’s something fun: during lessons, our teachers can create hundreds of interactive games using these very same flashcards!
4. You’ll get to be part of our amazing community of locals and foreigners living in Vietnam.
At Tiếng Việt Ơi, we believe in creating a safe and supportive working environment for our staff and a welcoming learning environment for our students.
We want to create a space where people are not limited to just sharing their learning experiences, but can also share their lives and experiences of Vietnamese culture (hence our slogan, “Stop Staying, Start Living”).
Over the years, we’ve organized a whole host of events to connect people based in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. From Speed Friending and Speak Vietnamese Đi to Vietnamese Cooking Classes and Language Exchanges, our events have attracted so many people who come together to make friends, practise Vietnamese through fun activities and explore the Vietnamese local scenes.
Our two biggest events of the year, Christmas Potluck and Tết Việt Ơi, have also brought together so many people to experience what it’s like to live in Hanoi as part of such a warm and loving community.
And if you take lessons at our Hanoi Head Office, you’ll feel the warmth of our staff and students the moment you walk in.
Our kitchen is always full of snacks, tea and coffee, and lunchtime is often filled with laughter as students and teachers gather around to enjoy a meal together. Here’s our 10th-year anniversary video, documenting our TVO community over the years.
5. We have the most fantastic teachers and students.
We believe what has made TVO such a great place over the years is the teachers we have and the students we’re so lucky to welcome.
There could be tons of unique selling points for a business to advertise, but we think it’s the community of teachers and students that truly makes a place special.
Our teachers, besides being absolutely well-trained for the job, are also kind, fun and always willing to help whenever they can.
Over the years, we’ve also been lucky to have so many students who continuously support us and cheer us on. Some students have even stayed with us for years, becoming absolute masters of Vietnamese and long-time supporters who continue to share valuable Vietnamese learning insights and help us see things from a student’s perspective.
They’ve made us realize just how meaningful our job is and have shown us so much love for Vietnamese culture and its people.
Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for better people to join us in bringing Vietnamese culture and lifestyle to the whole world.
